Fitting the Curve: Flood Frequency Analyses
This page provides supplemental resources for our 13 July 2022 webinar covering flood frequency assessments using RMC-BestFit and other approaches. View a recording of the free webinar on the AWS YouTube channel:
Webinar details are available here:
Software and guidance documents
- Download, documentation, and training resources for RMC-BestFit, free software for curve fitting and estimation with a range of probability distributions.
- Download, documentation, and training resources for the Statistical Software Package (HEC-SSP). HEC-SSP combines all of the statistical analyses capabilities of HEC-FFA (Flood Frequency Analysis), STATS (Statistical Analysis of Time Series Data), REGFRQ (Regional Frequency Computation) and MLRP (Multiple Linear Regression Program).
- This link includes download instructions and background for TUFLOW FLIKE,, developed by Professor George Kuczera from the University of Newcastle. FLIKE is an extreme value analysis package that calculates the probability of flood events based on historical records. Instructions for using FLIKE are included in Australian Rainfall and Runoff Book 3.
- Download, documentation, and training resources for Reservoir Frequency Analysis (RMC-RFA).
- Download a pdf of the USGS Guidelines for Determining Flood Flow Frequency: Bulletin 17C
Courses
- Get an overview of FFA and stochastic hydrology with interactive examples in Part 4 of our 8-part Hydrology and Hydraulics Essentials course series: H&H Essentials Course #4: Stochastic Hydrology
- Get a free 3-month FLIKE license and step through worked FFA examples in Part 2 of our 8-part Australian Rainfall and Runoff course series: ARR Course #2: Flood Frequency Analyses
